Top 5 Reasons Why People Buy Fake Designer Handbags
Table of Contents
1. Authentic designer handbags are too expensive.
The most extreme luxury handbags cost over $15,000.00 (Hermes Birkin bag, anyone?). Designer handbags made with exotic animal skins can cost over $30,000.00. But the average luxury handbag costs between $2,000.00 and $5,000.00. Medium Chanel quilted flaps are a minimum $3,000.00. The average monogram Louis Vuitton bag is $1,800.00. The list goes on. So, it’s no wonder people opt for luxury replicas.
An authentic luxury handbag can easily cost as much as 2 mortgage payments or 3 months’ worth of rent. The average American can’t afford to splurge on a designer handbag. Especially if they’re a single parent or married but have lots of financial responsibilities. This makes buying a fake handbag a much desirable option.
2. People want to gain status the easy way.
Designer handbags give the perception of being wealthy. Wealth is synonymous with status. And most people want status… Or, at least, they want people to perceive them as having status. And your possessions can give off the illusion of having a high rank in society: a large home, luxury car, private jet… But replica designer handbags are the most accessible status symbols. And if you have no qualms about owning fake designer accessories, why not? Fake it 'til make it as they say...
But why, exactly, are people obsessed within status? People want status to simply feel better about themselves… that is, feeling as if you’re better than others makes you feel better about yourself. But status is a form of hierarchy. Most of us simply want to be at the top. Most of us care a lot about our image. So, it’s easy to see why one would buy a replica designer handbag: it’s kind of a fast-track for improving your image.
3. Some replica handbags are undetectable.
You’re going to love this reason but part of the reason people buy fakes is because some fake designer handbags are extremely difficult to tell apart from the real thing!
Story time: I once owned a beautiful replica Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas Neverfull GM. While cruising the mall one day, I made an unplanned visit to the Louis Vuitton boutique. One sales associate saw me and complimented me on my own [fake] Neverfull. In fact, when I walked into the boutique, I had no doubt that my bag would be undetectable by the sales associates. That’s how good of a fake it was.

In another post, I’ll go into more detail about undetectable replica handbags known as “mirror image” or “super copies”.
You can actually consider this reason an extension to reason #1. Some women can afford expensive handbags but they don’t really consider the expense worthwhile. Now, we’re speaking in terms of value. Some, who can afford the real thing, don’t think that luxury handbags are actually worth the money. These are the same folks who will, instead, use their money to increase their own wealth. They prefer to invest that money in stocks, bonds, businesses, and real estate.
5. Authentic designer handbags are prone to theft.
Lastly, sometimes carrying luxury handbags can make you a target of theft. A few times, I read about influencers from Instagram that have had their bags stolen when they were out and about. And I’m talking about Birkin bags. To avoid the loss, some women have taken to buying replicas of authentic handbags they already own. They will wear the replica version when they’re running errands or for girl’s nights out. They reserve the authentic version of their bags for formal events and special occasions. I, personally, think this is brilliant.

In conclusion, let me point out that I absolutely do not pass judgment on those who buy fakes OR those that choose to spend their money on the real thing. It’s all a personal preference.
But what say you? Do you have any qualms about buying fake designer handbags? Do you own any? If you don’t own any, do you judge others that do? What is right and wrong for you?
